Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by her boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place.

Carter. My god he was something!
If there’s one person who can keep her safe, it’s probably Carter…
This is the first book I read by Tijan and I proud to say that I completed two more books in this series.
Few weeks ago, I wanted to read to something mafia/ gangster type story and I didn’t know where to start so I asked in several different book groups and they all suggested me this (with few more other books).
Now the book starts where Emma kills a guy who was raping her best friend and roommate and that said guy was the son of the mafia in the city. She knows that if they find out who killed him they would eventually kill her so she went to Carter
Now Carter and her story goes way back. They were childhood friends – sort of, kind of. But she knew whenever she would be in any problem Carter would be with her without any second thought. And did he help her?
“You did all that for me?”
“I would declare war for you.”
My god! Carter was the real man. Though he was cold as ice and cruel to the people he was perfect for Emma. Cater was a killer. He had killed hundreds of people who had harm his people and would not think twice before going on a revenge. Now that seems a bit vile, right? But no! he was so damn handsome and thought full and alpha.
Did I say handsome? Because he was!
Carter had a rough past which made him the man he is today. The first time they met together it felt like the temperature had decrease because of the cold stature Carter reeks.
There was time in this book I wanted to kill Emma myself. She was focusing way too much on the guy she killed and was unable to look around her where her friends were getting affected by her wrong choice. But never the less Carter though tough and cruel he had a soft spot for Emma and would do anything to protect het.
“Tell me what happened.” His plea was so soft.
I broke. This wasn’t the stranger anymore. This was Carter, the boy I had grown up with. I flung my arms around him and pulled him down. Instead of fighting, I clung to him now.
He wrapped his arms around me and rolled to his side. He patted my back and tucked his head into the crook of my neck and shoulder. I felt his lips brush there as he repeated, “You have to tell me. I won’t hurt you. I will protect you.”
If you are thing of reading this book take a whole day or two free because if you start it you won’t be able to keep it down before finishing it. A totally alpha mafia love story!
